LONDON R&D Engineer

Industrial Light and Magic are looking for an R&D Engineer to join our team in London to create the next generation of performance capture technology.
This position develops artist-driven software systems and techniques that advance the state of the art in high-end feature film visual effects production, focusing on 2D and 3D motion tracking, image-based data capture, and 3D reconstruction of both rigid geometric models and high-fidelity models of human bodies and faces. The duties are a mix of research, development, maintenance, and end user support, as an integral part of the creative process on major motion pictures such as Star Wars, Avengers, Transformers.
Investigate, prototype and implement solutions that will deliver excellent
performance capture results in a robust real-time context
Extend and create new tools and workflows for real-time review of performance
capture
Optimize existing algorithms for real-time usage
Advise/assist other engineers with maintenance and bug fixing of existing tools
Serve as knowledge resource for workflow and tools used in production at ILM
Update and feature additions to existing tools
Fix bugs and tune workflow tools
Provide training and assistance to artists on toolsets and workflows
Participate in discussions surrounding future workflow and tool development
Collaborate with artists and productions to develop efficient workflows and
supporting tools
Requirements
Education /
Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Graphics discipline, or equivalent
professional experience
Proven experience in the visual effects, computer graphics or games industries
Technical Skills:
Expert knowledge of C+
and the Linux environment
Proficient at writing real-time code and strong Maths background
Experience with integrating 3rd party systems (hard- and software)
Experience working with revision control systems and defined coding standards
Experience with developing code in one or more of the following areas: computer vision, real-time image processing, designing high performance low latency system, game engines
Preferred Skills / Competencies:
Experience with Motion capture, rigging and animation systems
Experience with Open Source Libraries like OpenCV
Experience developing tools and/or plugins within industry software packages such as Maya, Motionbuilder, Houdini or Katana
Experience with Renderman, vray or Arnold
VFX, Feature Animation or Episodic production experience
Experience developing on Windows
